Another Talent Competition

So there's a new show premiering on NBC called The Sing Off, with its tag-line being: The ultimate A Cappella Competition. They also describe it as combining American Idol and Glee. Whateves. That just made me log onto Hulu and what Glee. And I love music but another wanna be American Idol is not at all appealing to me. I can barely handle the original. In another promo ad they show a bunch of folks singing on street corners and what not, and instruments being smashed and destroyed. My thoughts were that I hope that was CGI, because that is a complete waste! I mean couldn't they find another way to drive there point other than resorting to vandalism? I was just so wasteful and corny to me. Then they showed then homegirl from the Losen Up My Buttons Pussy Cat dolls was shown saying something along the lines of, "How cool is it to make music from just voices!" Um...really? Isn't that what its all about? Annoying

So I'd already written it off  as show that would not be adding to Must See T.V. list. Then during one of the ads I saw two familiar faces that has changed my mind. The first being Benjamin Scott "Ben Folds" the front man for the great Ben Folds Five! Evidently he will be one of the judges on this Sing Off show. So of course I'm there. Second person that I saw during the promos, but that did not cause so much glee was one Nick Lachey. He will be hosting the show, and I'm just happy that he has a job. I mean how much settlement money could he have from the divorce? I hope the show is a success so that he will  remain gainfully employed.

The Sweetest Thing

Customer Service huh?

So after work today I went ran a couple of errands before hoping on the bus and heading home. One of my stops was at Verizon to pay my mobile bill. I usually pay at the in store automated pay station so I don't have to deal with lines and the like. I didn't want to use my debit card and attempted to pay with cash. Which I've done countless times, but the machine was unwilling to accept my cash. I ask one of the Verizon folks for assistance (who was quite nice) but he doesn't seem to know whats happening either. So I go to the counter and ask one of the ladies if I could pay. Without looking up she asks flatly with a slight hint of annoyance "The machine is not working?" I tell her no and she processed to do something at her monitor this point I turn and walk leave. She says after me "I can help you." Over my shoulder I tell her I'm fine and continue walking.

Listen I'm not expecting to be greeted with rose pedals and champagne when I enter a room but come on. Do your job. I work in retail too and I constantly have to cater to the needs of the public. And when I feel as though I have nothing left to give I fake it till I make it.

The Late Night Green NIght Eco Jam!

I love Jimmy Fallon and think he's doing a great job of hosting the Late Show on NBC. He's just so stinking cute and always puts a smile on my face. Even when his jokes fall flat. Check out his eco jams!

Football Weekends

What a gorgeous sunny, but cold day in good ole Rhody! I have a four hour shift at the store today so I'm gonna grab some food and head out to the job. The Patriots don't play until tomorrow night on Monday Night football. So that's one less thing that I have to think about today. I don't even want to think about that game, I'm just thinking positive thoughts and hoping for the best. I know its just a game, I have to tell myself that over and over because I take it way too personally.

Before heading out to the job on Saturday, I was able to catch the first half of the Florida Gators vs. the Florida Seminoles on CBS. It was the last home game for college football's super nova Tim Tebow. I watched as each of the seniors had their moment and was introduced. When they showed Tebow just before he was introduced I got all emotional (I AM that girl who cries at Hallmark commercials) when I saw his eyes brimming with tears.

I've never seen this kind of attention, accolades and scrutiny for any other college football player. He is admired and criticized for both his game and religious stand, and at every turn that young man has shown nothing but class.

Happy Thanks Giving!

Well lovelies I hope that everyone has a wonder and love filled thanks giving.  And I hope that we realize that everyday is a gift and that we treat everyday as a gift that we are thankful for.

Depressed?

Hello lovelies, I recently read a story about a young Canadian woman who has lost her benefits because her insurance agent found photos of her on facebook where she appeared to be happy. The woman, Nathalie Blanchard has been on long-term sick leave from her job at IBM for the last year and recieving benefits from Manulife insurance. When she called to see why her payments had stopped, and was informed by her insurance agent that the Facebook photos were evidence that Blanchard was no longer depressed.   She tells the CBC that her doctors told her to try to have fun to forget her worries.

Now I have a Facebook page and I don't know about some people, but my page is private and you have to put in a request for friendship to even see my page. Did the agent ask to be friends with her and she allowed? Did they get to her through one of her friends? Does she have an open page that anyone can see? If its the latter then that was just foolishness on her part. You've gotta keep things like that private, and even that doesn't keep the weirdos and creepers away. But at least you have some sort of control.

I feel for this woman, if she really is suffering from depression in such a way that keeps her from working then this a great blow to her recovery.

Football Sunday

The Patriots play the Jets in a late afternoon game at Foxboro. Enough said.

Update: They beat the Jets 34-14.

Next: The undefeated N.O. Saints in the Super dome. It won't be easy, but its my hope that they can hand them their first lost. Have a great week lovelies!

Fashion Forward

While running some errands after work I stopped at a CVS and noticed a girl with a great handbag. I couldn't tell what designer or brand it was but I liked the style and size. Actually her entire outfit was quite fashionable. I wasn't able to get a photo from head to toe but her shoes were cute too.  She's wearing a plum velvet blazer, gray sweater, skinny jeans and black flats. Classic yet fashionable.

Discouraged but Determined

I've been looking for a job for sometime now, I have not been successful in my search. I trying to keep my chin up and stay positive, and for the most part I feel positive. I just get so frustrated! Especially in this state, it seems that if you don't know someone you have no chance of even getting an interview. All I want is find a good job and do good work.

I'm Lovin it!

Hello lovelies! As you will learn one of my favorite things is a fabulous pair of shoes. And I really love this Christian Louboutin Miss Boxe wedge. I first saw them Nicole Richie I've had a longing for these lovelies. These are oldies but goodies, as these bad boys are no longer available anywhere except eBay or other auction sites. Which probably bodes well for me because the original price on these bad boys is over $600 the cheapest I found them was for around $500 but they are no longer in stock. My fear with ordering shoes on line is comfort. As I get older I look for comfort as well as style. Alas this may be added to my wish list.

Home Decor

My home decor is in serious need of an over hall. I certainly have an idea in my mind brain, but I've been searching the internet and flipping through magazines for ideas and inspiration. I'm really digging the look of Rashida Jones Los Angeles home. Rashida has great style, and with the help of her friend designer Katie Fine they put together a wonderful space. I love the substantial pieces, especially the ottoman. Enjoy the loveliness.

Inappropriate Crushes

What's good this dreary Saturday? The forecast calls for a rain ALL day, so I'll will remain indoors and will continue my home cleaning and organization. I will also be watching a couple of college football games and eating Chinese take out. Don't be jealous darlings.

I'm particularly interested in the Florida Gator and S Carolina Gamecocks game in the late afternoon. While Tim Tebow is the superstar of the Gators, my favorite boy is Riley Cooper the Gators receiver. He is my inappropriate crush. Inappropriate because he is only 22 and I am over 22.Sunday morning I will be at a mandatory (paid) work meeting. Kinda stinks as I will be missing Sunday service. Its a three hour meeting, hopefully there will be provisions.

The Patriots will be in Indianapolis this weekend to play those undefeated Colts. I really dislike the Colts, as much as I adore and admire their former coach Dungy I loathe this team. To be fair, I loathe all teams and wish them all misfortune. Its not reasonable or rational but its how I've always been. Last season a game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals resulted in a tie of 13-13. If every NFL game ended in that manner it would warm the cockles of my heart.

Anywhoo. The Patriots game is a Sundaynighter on NBC, so I'll be bracing myself through Keith Oberman and Dan Patricks tag team ramblings. And I actually like them both, but they are a little too cute on the Sunday Night pre-game. Not fun to watch, almost uncomfortable actually.

Starbucks Holiday Cups

The Starbucks Holiday cups are here! Even in my current financial situation I had to buy the cheapest beverage on the menu. The regular coffee. Since it was a chilly night, I quite enjoyed my hot coffee in my holiday cup.

Veterans Day

I'm feeling a bit melancholy today, just chilling with some tea and a magazine before heading out for a night at the store.

Today is Veterans Day, and I'm always wary of saying Happy Veterans Day. But I am so grateful for those who have made the choice to serve our country and protect our freedom with their lives.

Have a great day!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

So I had an interview yesterday morning, it was set up by one of my many temp agencies. I met with a lovely woman, and the actual interview interview took all of 20 minutes. We'll see what happens, I really need a full time job and know that I could do great work for this company. Thankfully I've been getting a lot of hours at my part time job. I actually worked a 10 hour shift yesterday, I was on my feet for 10 hours! Someone called out and my manager asked if I'd be willing to stay. I initially said no because I wasn't feeling all that great. My manager tells me that I would have a break and that I wouldn't have to stay the entire night. Even with this going on I am encoureage by my friends. Last night my friend treated me a movie, we went to see A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey at IMAX. It was so good, a was a true 3-D with big ole glasses. I needed the encouragement and am grateful for generous friends. Peace

Happy Birthday Sesame Street

Sesame Street turns 40 today! I was big fan of Sesame Street as I'm sure many who are my age were. PBS was the only channel that my father allowed my sister and I to watch. He went to the extreme by taking the channel changer off of the television when he wasn't there. So when my shows were done I was left with NOVA. Not fun for a 10 year old.
After homework (or rather pretending to do homework) I plopped down in front of the telly and watched my PBS afterschool line up. It went:
  • Sesame Street

  • Electric Company

  • 3-2-1 Contact

I hear Mrs. Obama will be on today, I don't watch anymore but I may tune in today to celebrate their special day.

Photo of the Day

I just came across this photo of Daniel Craig and thought "Not to shabby." Not pretty boy handsome like Brad Pitt, but he's got definite swag and style.

Rihanna sits down with Diane Sawyer and talks about Chris Brown.

The Yankees lose to the Phillies 8-6 sending the game back to New York for game 6.

Folks will be hoofing it and car pooling do to Philadelphia's transit strike.

The Saints remain undefeated after a Monday Night football win against the Falcons.

Woman turns herself in for drunk driving. Why didn't she just call a friend?

Runaway groom leaves fiance and employee at the altar. If this is true quite possibly the worst fiance of ALL time!

Have a great day!

This Week in Sports

This is what I've paid attention to this past week in sports. Everything else is mute.

The Celtics are 4-0 stifling teams with their defense. Glenn Davis has apologized for getting into a fight with a friend before the season opener, which lead to him breaking his thumb. Sometimes boys are dumb.

With real no real offense to speak of the Phillies lose to the Yankees in last nights game 3 of the World Series. They play game 4 tonight at Citizens Bank Park on FOX.

The Florida Gators took The Georgia Bulldogs out with a win in at home in the Swamp. Even though the Gators were 8-0 coming into this game with Georgia, it seems folks aren't happy with the Gators lack of points scored. I say: Whateves. A win is a win. With this win against the Bulldogs Timmy Tebow broke Herschel Walker's Southeastern Conference record for rushing touchdowns.

The Patriots made a trip across the pond to London and won their game against the woeful Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the throwback uniforms. The Pats have a bye this week so they can get some much deserved rest and prepare for the Dolphins.

My Handbag Love Affair

While perusing the web I came across this fabulous bag: the Anna Corinna Handbags Jet Setter Tote I love it! It's not only beautifully designed but it's practical. I'm a big fan of larger handbags and this would fit nicely into my handbag collection. At $528 its not in my price range but maybe I'll find it on Amazon or eBay for cheap.

Presently I'm carrying around a tote that I picked up at Ann Taylor. Its exactly the one pictued below, and as I am a woman who enjoys the luxury of public tranportation (Eh hem *cough*) I carry so much with me. It fits a quite a lot and is good and and sturdy. It fits the following:
  • The lappy w/power cord
  • Book (paperback)
  • Wallet
  • Grocery shopping bag
  • Magazine
  • Water bottle
So for now I'll add the Foley to my wish list.

Photo of the day

I love photographs and enjoy looking at them and sharing them. I love this photo of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, it's so lovely and speaks volumes even in its silence. I've seen them in interviews together and they seemed to have great chemistry. They seemed to LIKE one another and have a mutual respect that shown bright. I read a quote from an interview he did in AARP.

"... because of "great impatience tempered by patience. When you have been together this long, sometimes you drive each other nuts, but underneath that is some core of affection and respect."
So simple but so lovely...I hope to experience that one day.

I'm Lovin' This

Look at him...I love this man.
One of my favorite actors and crushes (I have many) is Josh Charles. You may remember him in the movies Dead Poets Society and Threesome. He is currently co-starring in the new CBS drama The Good Wife. Its star is Julianna Margulies of ER fame about a politicians wife who is publicly humiliated by her cheating husband played by Mr. Big himself Christopher Noth. A timely subject no? I'm really loving this show and not just for Mr. Charles. It is well written and well acting with a fantastic cast. I don't have a long list of favorite t.v. shows, but this show is part of my must see t.v. Christine Baranski also stars.

Joshua does a cool interview with O magazine online.

Paul Pierce took care of business helped the Celtics beat the Cavs.

This Foley + Corinna Jet Setter tote is on my wish list.

As is this lovely little trinket.

I'm madly in love with Spike Jones' masterpiece Where the Wild Things Are.
Have a great day.

Hit the Ground Running

Like I mentioned a couple of weeks back I no longer have a full time gig. Thankfully I have a part time job at a retail store so that I can at least eat. I need a full time gig asap or I will have to move out of my adorable apartment. My little sister works for a prominent university in the city and met up so that I could get some face time with someone in human resources. While at the office we were able to have an impromptu meeting with someone there. We spoke about the job situation at the university and the possibilities that there were on campus. I actually worked with her about 7 years ago in Human Resourses at university (that's how the little sister got her gig) so hopefully that familiarity works in my favor.
Anyway. Now that we are in the throws of the football season and the NBA season starts tomorrow. To say that I am happy about the time of the year is an understatement. I really believe that this time of year is a God's gift to sports fans. As a New Englander we can have brutal winters and sports is one of my great comforts. I'm hoping to get a few friends together and take in Celtics game this season at the "new" Garden.

The first game is tonight in Cleveland where the Cavaliers have won 11 straight home games against the Celts. That was a surprising stat and I'm hoping that Boston can end that streak tonight with an opening season win. Unfortunately Boston will also be without Glen "Big Baby" Davis for the season due to a broken thumb. Apparently Big got into a scuffle with a college teammate a few days before the SEASON! He may also be facing a suspension from the front office because of the incident. Obviously there's more to this than what they are sharing. I just hope the line up change doesn't mess with the Celtics season too much. Fingers crossed.

Another Day

Hello lovelies, I read this quote and thought that it was brilliant. Have a wonderful day.

Keep Your Feet on the Ground...

My temporary job assignment ended and I am now without a full time work. Thankfully I do have a part time job where I can pick up some hours so I will not go hungry. Though it's very unsettling I believe that it will all turn out well (prayers to God, fingers crossed). I told one of my girlfriends about the job ending and she asked "Isn't that the job you had to travel an hour to get to?" I say yes, she says "Praise God, don't sweat that." It immediately helped me feel better! While I didn't hate the job it was wrecking me. I would wake up at 5:15 in the morning to get to my job for 7:30 and I deal with quite possibly one of the worst managers in all of the United States of America.

While working there i was sick at least three times, the last time I fairly certain it was the H1N1 virus. Seriously. My hope and prayer is that I will not continue to toil in miserable temporary jobs. But I know I'll have to do it for a little while longer to get where I want to. Like Casey Kasem says..."Keep Your Feet on the Ground, And Keep Reaching for the Stars."
